Feel Great and Hydrate

Many active individuals and athletes take hydration for granted.  Approximately 2/3 of all athletes are inadequately hydrated.  Active individuals that enjoy the gym and /or leisurely activities (golfing, gardening, walking) commonly disregard the importance of hydration.

Consider why staying hydrated is so important for our ability to perform activities.; our blood/plasma contains vital nutrients and oxygen for our muscles, and the ability to transport waste out of the tissues.

In many cases water isn’t enough.  An electrolyte drink (sports drink) contains important components (sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium and calcium) that direct fluid into the tissues (cells) and aid in the movements of our muscles.  Sports drinks that provide carbohydrates are helpful for energy and  our brains’ preferred fuel source. Consuming fluids with these components can significantly improve your overall performance, and feel great at the end of a workout.

Hydrating properly includes several factors; amount of fluid, fluid contents, and timing. The amount of fluid you need is dependent on the intensity of the activity, your individual sweat rate, ambient temperature and the altitude.

Without adequate hydration optimal performance will be quite difficult to achieve.  Keeping your body healthy is important, and hydrating properly will help meet that goal.
